When the past slaps you.

I spent three months shooting in Portland, Oregon the beginning of 2007. My freelance digital technician and assistant, Matt O'Brien worked with me almost everyday and developed a good working relationship and as most of my assistants and digital techs, we will be linked together and cultivated a deep friendship that will never be forgotten. It saddens me to report that I found out on Facebook he passed away in a motorcycle accident on Friday, the 13th. I will never forget my time with him in Oregon. He freaked out when he lost all the images after a whole day of shooting. I told him all will be fine and the files would be recovered. But, he still cussed himself out and was genuinely stressed. I put my mentor hat on and talked him off the edge. I can still see the disappointment in his eyes and teased him as he walked out the door: Don't loose your way home! Too soon?!
